Can a student coordinate the installation of a work of public art on UF’s campus? This remains to be seen, but all signs point to yes! For her project in lieu of thesis, Museum Studies Master’s candidate Oaklianna Brown is administering the HUB public art project. As she navigates her way through the University’ s approval system, safety measures, construction arrangements and theoretical public art concerns, Garrett Strobel UF senior in Sculpture, is creating a work of art destine for public display in front of the HUB on Stadium Road. He has proposed to create a solar powered tree that will collect energy during the day and illuminate at night using the stored energy. The tree will be a beautiful work of art in its own right, but also makes reference to UF’s sustainability goals for campus.
